V. Programs – Helen

  1. Sheila Keppler is the guest speaker at the October meeting. J.B. Dixon will be speaking at the November meeting. Kathy Notter will be the speaker at the January meeting. A speaker for February has not been arranged.
  2. The programs committee is looking for an entertainer for the Graze and Mingle reception in December. Mike Zeleny in Research may be an option, as he is a piano player.

VI. Professional Development – Yoko

  1. Yoko has received 10 registrations for the Suzanne Drew workshop during the October meeting. Guests are welcome.
  2. Yoko has asked D’Vee Buss to lead the March professional development event, but she has not committed yet.
  3. If D’Vee is unavailable in March, Kelly Clark is trained to do Gallup-related workshops. He is in charge of facilities for Abel-Sandoz

VII. Social Consciousness Projects – Dodie

  1. The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is October 14. Donations are going well, but the team still needs more people to walk.
  2. UAAD will participate in the Lincoln Public Schools’ Harvest of Books project in November. Stephanie from the University Bookstore will give us bookmarks and other advertising materials, as well as collect donations from UAAD members. The University Bookstore is offering a 25% discount on books purchased for the program. Marilyn volunteered the Accounting Office to mail the bookmarks to members.
  3. The Lincoln Food Bank/Lincoln Public Schools BackPack Program will be November’s project. Members will be asked to donate items specifically requested by the Food Bank, which then places the items in backpacks that are given to students before Thanksgiving.

VIII. Communications – Ranelle
Ranelle needs Update information by October 5. She also needs someone to volunteer for this month’s Member Spotlight feature.

IX. Membership – Doni
UAAD has more members than it did at the same time last year. Cheryl reported that she has received more than $900 in membership dues.

X. UAAD/UNOPA Joint Meeting – Jenny

  1. The Visitors’ Center is not a viable location; it is not available for reservations between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  2. Jenny is still waiting to hear from the Wick Center and the Champions Club. She also plans to call the Athletic Department to see whether the skyboxes are available.
  3. The Lied Center hosts receptions on the second-floor lobby and an area on the first floor. However, UAAD would need an outside caterer if this area were used. Jenny checked into the cost of ordering food from The Sweeter Side Bakery. Sandwiches are $5.50 each, not including drinks or side dishes.

XI. Other issues

  1. Marilyn will preside at the next general meeting.
  2. The Awards and Founders Day committees have started meeting.
  3. The board will give all guest speakers a free one-year membership to UAAD.
  4. The membership roster needs to be updated. Delinquent members will be dropped from the roster after the October meeting, and Marilyn will update the Lotus Notes listserv.
  5. Helen reported that 60 people attended the September general meeting. She suggested making a poster to set outside the room so people know they’ve found the right place.
  6. Cheryl will make nametags for board members to wear at the general meetings.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:54 a.m.
