Vice President-Jeanne Wicks:

  • Reported that she has been reviewing the by-laws for possible revisions.

Treasurer – Gerry Van Ackeren:

  • Gave a report of the account balance which is $2,215.84. He reported a total of $5,019 in the UNL and Foundation accounts. Marilyn noted a discrepancy in the totals and Gerry was going to review the numbers for accuracy.

Secretary- Charlotte Frank:

Employee Liaison – Cheryl Hassler: Absent

  • Doni will contact every member who has let their membership lapse via e-mail notice.
  • Will begin effort to target new hires. Discussion involved possibly sending a card with a red “N” pin as a gift from UAAD for all new Managerial/Professional employees. This would include a “welcome to the University from your local UAAD representative” and would have the program schedule printed on the back.
  • Ranelle will work on bookmark size card for this project.

Professional Development –Marilyn Fenton reported in Paul Marsolek’s absence:
Summarized programs for upcoming year to include:

  • Doni will contact every member who has let their membership lapse via e-mail notice.
  • Will begin effort to target new hires. Discussion involved possibly sending a card with a red “N” pin as a gift from UAAD for all new Managerial/Professional employees. This would include a “welcome to the University from your local UAAD representative” and would have the program schedule printed on the back.
  • Ranelle will work on bookmark size card for this project.

Program – Yoko Smith:

  • Yoko and Gerry Van Ackeren will hand out Strength Finder books ordered for East Campus participants.
  • 47 individuals have signed up for the Strength Finder workshop on Oct. 18th.
  • Decision made to not have cookies at the monthly meetings and will be looking at rooms other than what was used in the Union for the September meeting.
  • Discussed possible gifts for speakers and will be checking on portfolios, pens and other items at the N Store.

Publicity/PR – Ranelle Maltas:

  • Ranelle talked about attaching notes from the regular meetings to the website. She asked those in attendance to assist in getting information to her for the “Updates” and doing so in a timely manner. Marilyn mentioned possibly interviewing UAAD members for the Updates or providing them with a set of questions to answer to allow members to get to know each other better.
  • Doni suggested this be done no later than one week after the meetings.

Historian – Mary LaGrange:

  • No report

Social Consciousness-Linda Ratcliffe:

  • Linda handed out a list of organizations to consider contributing to in the coming year and asked those in attendance to add to the list if they had others they wanted to donate to. There was discussion about the silent auctions held last year and the fact that they were not that successful so we need to consider other ways to donate to organizations chosen by members.
  • Marilyn suggested ways in which UAAD members might become more aware of what organizations do by creating opportunities for participation such as reading to residents in nursing homes or walking dogs at the Humane Society. She suggested we consider becoming a “volunteer clearinghouse” for these opportunities.

The next Executive Board meeting will be September 6, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. at Nebraska Union, City Campus.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Charlotte Frank,
UAAD Secretary
