Meeting Minutes 11.06.06

UAAD Executive Board Meeting,
November 6, 2006
East Campus Union

President Marilyn Fenton welcomed the members to the monthly meeting and 'Humor in the Workplace' presentation by Patt Harper. She reported that announcements for various charity events sponsored by UAAD will be coming in the next few weeks.

Linda Ratcliffe gave a short report on the UAAD Food Drive for Lincoln Food Bank and indicated Helen Fankhauser filled her van at City Campus prior to the meeting. Linda stated her van was also filled at the East Campus pick-up site.

She told the group that UAAD will be supporting families from Friendship Home in December. A handout was made available to those who attended the meeting, listing gift ideas for the three families UAAD will be providing presents to for the Hoidays. Those in attendance were encouraged to have their gifts wrapped and ready to bring to the December 13th Graze and Mingle luncheon at Hewitt Place. She indicated there is a preference for gift cards for the recipients. No names are necessary on the cards as we will give them to Friendship Home to distribute. Linda told those in attendance that they could participate as groups to buy 'big ticket items' but asked that they inform her of their plans so that duplicate purchases might be avoided.

Linda announced that Mike Zeleny, from the Office of Research is encouraging UNL employees to volunteer to be marshals for the Star City Parade on December 2nd.

The December meeting will be the annual Graze and Mingle on December 13th with catered soup and bread from Manhattan Deli. Those interested in attending will need to place their order prior to the meeting. If members choose to bring their own lunch, they may do so. Ed Zimmer, Lincoln historian, will give a presentation in the Hewitt Place Museum following lunch.

Yoko Smith introduced Patt Harper of HaHa Productions who presented 'Humor in the Workplace', bringing her own brand of humor and toy case to those attending. She provided information and insight into the health benefits of laughter, while sharing some of her tried and true methods of making humor a priority in her own life. Patt encouraged the audience to "become child like" and presented everyone in attendance with a "Certificate of the Right to Play", making each one a lifetime member of The Society of Childlike Persons.

Respectfully submitted,
Charlotte Frank, UAAD Secretary
