UAAD’s Community Outreach is excited to provide varied opportunities to enhance awareness, volunteer and enrich the lives around us both on campus and within our local community. UAAD hosted a summer opportunity for members to tour Turbine Flats, a co-working space. On their website, Turbine Flats is described as a place where "innovation comes to work."
During the first quarter of 2017, UAAD members donated a number of supplies to the Lincoln City Libraries to aid in their mission of providing learning initiatives. The\se donations will support the Libraries' new Makerspace Adventure. For more information, the Lincoln Journal Star published an article.
The Bay Lincoln
In March 2017, UAAD members were invited to The Bay Lincoln a local coffee bar, skate park, and resource center with a concert venue. This brown bag luncheon included a tour of the facility.
Coat Drive - Donate Winter Wear
The People’s City Mission benefited from UAAD's Coat Drive, which included items such as hats, mittens, scarves, gloves, and coats, for all ages.
The 2016 holidays brought out UAAD members, who distributed greeting cards to spread joy to Lincoln seniors in assisted living.
Capital Humane Society
The Capital Humane Society was established in 1902 and "serves the community by sheltering unwanted pets, acts as an advocate for animal welfare and strives to educate the public about responsible pet care.” In October 2016, UAAD hosted a donation drive whereby members supported the welfare of local animals.
People’s City Mission
In March of 2016, UAAD served dinners at the People’s City Mission.
OpeN Shelf Pantry Drive
At our March 2015 and January 2016 meetings, UAAD participated in a campus pantry drive to help support OpeN Shelf, a campus pantry that supports University of Nebraska–Lincoln students in need.
The Big Event
During April 2016, UAAD participated in the Big Event, geared to give back to the local Lincoln community through a 1-day service campaign.
Santa to a Senior Program
During the month of November 2015, UAAD provided holiday gifts for elderly adults in the community.
Art Supply Drive for Lincoln Arts Council
At our September and October meetings, UAAD hosted drives that benefited the Lincoln Arts Council and the youth of Lincoln.
Basic, good-quality art tools that encourage self-expression were distributed to elementary students who participate in ART MAKES ME SMART programs both in-school and after-school.
